1. THIS DAY IN WW2 (29th April 1942)
In the Philippines… On Mindanao, Filipino resistance continues but they are pushed back from their positions when the invading Japanese receive reinforcements and greater air support. The Japanese continue to bomb the remaining American troops who have retreated to Corregidor.
In New Guinea… Operation Mo is being prepared by the Japanese. It calls for an amphibious assault on Port Moresby.
In Burma… Despite a desperate defence, the Japanese take Lashio, terminus of the Burma Road. All supplies to China must now go by air as China has been cut off by land. General Alexander decides to remove his troops to new positions in the Chinwin and Irrawaddy Valley.

3. TODAY’S SELF-OBSERVATION
With shift 2 of the Weekend Job passing off without incident, I am free to focus on my passion. When you run a business, you are busy with it even on days when you have no clients. In fact, you have to be disciplined as it will absorb as much time and effort as you throw at it. The other elements of one’s life, ie self, the home and relationships also need maintenance to keep deriving benefit from them. The principle of ringfencing time and sound principles of prioritisation will prevent a passion becoming a nightmare.
Another dimension to business is fully embracing risk and uncertainty. Life experience has taught me that the concept of safety and security is complete fantasy and simply doesn’t exist. There is no defence against future fate, and there is no point at all wasting a second of your life trying to build sandcastles of security. Life is by its very nature a temporary experience, to be fully embraced while the opportunity exists. I can understand how people who have never had a stable environment crave it, but I have also seen such people destroy their relationships and build castles of fear and misery as a result, the thing they are pursuing robbing them of love and happiness.
The only moment that really counts is this one. It is the only one you can fully experience and have absolute control over. A truly happy life consists of a string of right now moments lived to the max.
My other great conclusion is that the ego is a flawed idea. The notion of a separate individual self leads you to a life experience of fear of a universe over which you have no control. I have become convinced that your awareness is simply a particular focal point of the consciousness of the Universe, but to see that, your mind must be quiet enough for long enough and open enough to allow the universe in and flow through it. This is why to date so few life experiences are unenlightened – their minds don’t become quiet enough for long enough to see that they are all actually the one Big Mind. However, this is no tragedy, only the way the Universe experiences itself. All is ultimately well.
